The UMCA Board of Directors held two special meetings in which they spent a total of 4 days focusing on strategic planning. They met with an outside facilitator to assess the strengths and weaknesses of the association, and identify opportunities and challenges in Utah’s mechanical contracting industry.

Ultimately, the Association’s goal is to develop a long-range plan that will help in providing cutting-edge services to our members and stakeholders. Among the work done by the board was focusing UMCA’s mission and defining a list of goals and objectives.

MISSION

UMCA exists to: act as the collective voice of the industry; represent contractors in labor relations/collective bargaining; provide education to contractors and their employees; monitor legislation and promote the interests of contractors and the industry with various government entities; encourage contractors to work together through participation in the association to address industry issues; act as a gateway to the national association. While we will identify a number of specific challenges for the association, most all will fit within one of the aforementioned groupings.

GOALS & OBJECTIVES

  • Become more proactive in the political & legislative arenas
  • Create a UMCA PAC Fund
  • More aggressively promote safety industry-wide
  • Establish a Safety Committee, open to all member firms, with the following responsibilities:
    • Bring safety into the UCC;
    • Suggest contractor training programs;
    • Develop a relationship with the local OSHA office;
    • Help contractors market themselves as the “safer” alternative, and
    • Meet at least quarterly.
