Whether you have been in the trades for years or just starting out, the Utah Career Center can help get you started in planning for your future.

Thousands of UA members have gone through our apprenticeship courses and programs and are currently enjoying the career opportunities they have earned as a result of their professional training.  The Utah Career Center for Plumbers, Pipefitters, Welders and HVAC&R is associated with Salt Lake City Community College. Apprentices who complete our 5-year program will earn credit towards an Associate of Applied Science Degree from Salt Lake City Community College in addition to earning Journeyman status within the specific trade they select.

Before coming to the Utah Career Center view the basic qualifications you’ll need to complete before you apply.

All applicants must provide the of following:

  • Birth Certificate or other such document for proof of age.
  • High School Diploma: Applicants should be prepared to provide a high school transcript and Diploma
    or
  • High School Equivalency (GED) Certificate and official report of results.

Additional documentation that may be required:

  • Transcripts from any vocational School, College, or University that you may have attended, if applicable.
  • Military transfer or discharge form DD-214, if applicable

Prospective apprentices must also be able to:

  • Appear for an interview when notified.
  • Appear for an orientation when notified.
  • Take and pass a drug and alcohol screening before going to work.

IF YOU ARE ACCEPTED FOR A PROBATIONARY APPRENTICESHIP YOU WILL BE REQUIRED TO:

  1. Serve as a probationary apprentice for a period of 1 year (1700-2000 hours of on-the-job-training).
  2. Serve a 5 year apprenticeship including the probationary period (8500-10,000 hours of on-the-job-training).
  3. Report for work on a regular basis.
  4. Provide for your transportation to and from the job site.
  5. Work under the direction of a Journeyman on the job site and preform job duties satisfactorily.
  6. Attend related training classes regularly and maintain an acceptable average in those classes.
  7. Pay tuition required and buy books for related training.
  8. Abide by all rules and regulations of the Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee.

Health Insurance

Health Insurance for qualified  members is available and covers your whole family. The Utah Pipe Trades Health and Welfare place is very comprehensive. While the plan does not have traditional vision and dental coverage members are given up to $1500.00 reimbursement for both vision and dental services.

RETIREMENT

The Utah Pipe Trades Trust Fund has assembled a generous Retirement and Pension fund that ensures members are taken care of when they retire.

Employees become vested in the plan after 10 years of employment with the earliest age of retirement being 55 and normal retirement age at 65.

Depending on the age and circumstance of retirement, vested employees are entitled to monthly payments not exceeding $200,000 annually.
